Artist of the Month: Cass
Cass, 22, is a New Zealand native who entered the Christian music scene less than two years ago. Growing in a Christian household, both her love for God and her passion for music was developed at a very young age. Upon graduating with her Bachelors in Music, Cass had other plans, yet God called her to release her first EP. Like most of us after receiving a word or instruction from God, Cass was quite hesitant to do what God was telling her to do. After a supernatural confirmation, Cass finally decided to step out on faith and obedience and go for it. This was the genesis or beginning of her music ministry which led to an album ironically titled GENESIS.
GENESIS was quickly met with so many positive feedback and for good reason. Cass is unlike any other prominent Christian artist of today and she brings with her a fresh breeze to the Christian music scene. Her songs mainly incorporate EDM influences, yet the R&B and Pop influences in her songs are far from subtle.
Though her message of Christ, His love, greatness, and redemptive power is firm, Cass has managed to create music that can still relate to secular people without her having to compromise Christ.
“it was really about trying to make a project that Christians can listen to but even non-Christians can listen to it as well and not feel threatened by it. One thing I found from writing for my church was that it was such a struggle to get my non-Christian friends to listen to the ‘Road To You’ album. Not because the music wasn’t good but because they were like “ugh, an album about God?” because [when it’s overtly] worshipful music, it freaks them out. So the vision was whether you’re a Christian or not, whether you believe in God or not you can still listen to it and engage and connect with it even though it’s still about God.” Cass stated in an interview with The Good Christian Music Blog
Starting the new year off strong, Cass has already recently released a music video to “Do You” and a new single “Tommorrow Will Come”. The video honored the collective and recurring theme of dance which we usually see in Cass’s video but There was one significant difference in this video. As many fans have been wondering who cass is, She finally made an appearance in this video, instead of sticking to her custom of hiding behind the scene- Could cass be breaking out of a shell?
Overall, the coolest thing about Cass is that her music is cool, catchy, yet they are still pure worship and praise. Genesis is barely a year old yet, Cass’s music has been rapidly gaining traction and popularity! She is truly a one of kind artist who is not afraid of breaking outside of the box, taking risks, and trying new things. The anointing and spirit of excellence upon her life is very undeniable.
It is only the beginning of her ministry yet Cass has been able to reach an impressive momentum and walk through amazing doors opened by the Lord. I am excited to see where God takes her and how he uses the amazing gift that he has placed inside of her for his glory. If you haven’t checked out her music yet, don’t wait. Do so now!
