Why You Should Tell Your Testimony Always

The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. –John 12:17-18

Testimony breathes transformation into people’s hearts. A testimony is a first hand account witnessing Jesus move in their life. This could be a story of an answered prayer or a story of how someone began to follow Jesus.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus had performed many miracles. Each time miracles were performed, everyone in the town would tell others of what they had seen Jesus do. The word spread quickly, it was like a tweet that went viral!

In verse 17, the crowds who had “bore witness”, or saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead continued to tell other people. In verse 18, it is said that the reason the crowds went to meet Jesus because they heard of the miracle that was done. Their interest increased after hearing what Jesus had done for someone. This is why there is power in testimony. There is power in sharing your story. Your story matters because it is specific to your life. You cannot simply teach or learn a testimony because it is one’s first-hand experience with God. When you share your story, the spirit of prophecy is exuded into others. In other words, you are giving the listener faith to know if it can happen in your life, it can also happen in their life.

Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” -Rev 19:10

ACTION: God has called you to go through certain tests so He can create a beautiful testimony to share with the world. God is a God of turning tragedy into triumph and every heartbreak into hope. After people shared Lazarus’ story, the town chased after Jesus to see these works for themselves. If you struggle sharing your faith with others, ask God to give you confidence in your testimony and ask Him to let go of any fear in your heart that is stopping you. There is power in your testimony.
